Before and after

This one is called Blue Beyond, and it used to have layers of blue cellophane scraps in it. Over time, it seems that the cellophane deteriorated and discolored.

The center of the upper shape was repainted with a bright red-orange, giving the painting a new life.

I must confess I was the one who painted the red. I remember Dad doing this painting and I really liked it, but then he put some kind of fixative that discolored it. Maybe the fixative was old or somehow not what he intended. At any rate the discoloration continued over the years and really dulled the whole work. I decided after much reflection that he would appreciate my effort to revive the painting to something approaching its original brilliance.

By the way, I love the bright red. I also love the decayed greens & browns — they remind me of land masses on a globe. And I love the contrast between the two.
