Grapevine has just announced the 70 breweries that will be participating in this year’s Beertopia! Time to start devising our plan of attack for next Saturday! Last year, I went a little overboard and put together a web page listing every beer announced. I was mainly looking for an excuse to try out some CSS & responsive web tactics, so I justified it as “career development”. It was nice to have a study guide handy before and during the event. This year … ain’t nobody got time fo’ dat!!
But here’s a quick listing of everything I’m interested in. (I may need to prioritize…)
I definitely want to hit several local (and local-ish) brewers. And there are a bunch of ’em:
- Unknown Brewing
The Queen City’s newest brewery.
- Four Friends
I’ve only had one or two from these guys.
- NoDa Brewing Co
Lots of good ones coming out of here, including possibly the best IPA in the Carolinas: Hop Drop and Roll.
- River Dog Brewing
From Ridgeland, SC. Their Galaxy Quest IPA remains one of my highest rated beers ever.
- Benford Brewing
Tried their IPA at Millstone Pizza in Rock Hill. Didn’t enjoy it. But, they have “Ben” in their name, so…
- Freehouse Brewery
From Charleston. I’ve never had ’em.
- Holy City Brewing
Also Charleston. Had some. Liked it.
- Lonerider Brewing
Badass label designs. I enjoyed the beers, too.
- Quest Brewing
- Railhouse Brewery
Aberdeen, NC. Where the heck is that?
- River Rat Brewery
Columbia, SC. These guys aren’t even open yet. Did I read that right?
- Highland Brewing
Kilts and stuff, from Ashville, NC.
- Natty Greene’s
Greenesboro, NC. My fave so far is their Southern Pale Ale.
- Foothills Brewing
Try their Jade IPA ASAP.
- Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
I guess, at this point, I’m listing all the local ones. Traditional German styles here. Not a fan…
Favorites from out west:
Never heard of these, but want to try:
- Atwater Brewing
- Brouwerij Rodenbach (Palm)
Appears to be from some other country. Adventure!!
Other fun friends:
- Brooklyn Brewery
They offered some fun ones last year, Local 1 & 2, and had guys on hand to explain the special brewing processes.
- Lazy Magnolia Brewing
I’ll take a Timber Beast any day.
- Victory Brewing
Used to live one town over from them in PA.
- Smuttynose Brewing Co.
Funny name, quirky label designs, & good beers.
